The present set-up is designed to study the Double Stage Air compressor. The set-up consists of a double stage reciprocating type air compressor. It is driven by a motor through a belt and pulley system. The drive motor is swinging field type and supplied with dial type spring balance which permits direct torque measurement. This arrangement facilitates the end user to calculate the power transmitted by the motor to the compressor, accurately. To calculate input power to the motor, an energy meter is provided and in this way, by knowing the input and output, efficiency of the compressor is calculated easily. The outlet of the air compressor is connected to air reservoir and suction is connected to another air manifold tank. The compressor draws air from this manifold tank which is provided with bellow at one side. This tank also has an orifice with manometer to observe and calculate the air flow rate. The compressed air from the outlet side of the compressor is stored in provided reservoir. The reservoir is equipped with Pressure Gauge, Control Valve, Safety Valve, Drain etc. A water cooled intercooler for air, in between both head, is provided to cool the hot and compressed air before entering the second stage. Temperature of inlet air, after single compression, inlet and outlet of second compression and pressure in reservoir and at intermediate stage can be measured by Temp. Sensors and pressure gauges.

This Unsteady State Heat Transfer Unit has been designed to allow students to run experiments on unsteady state heat transfer. The unit is supplied with a heated water bath and a set of solid shapes with built-in temperature sensor to monitor the temperature at the center of the shape. Monitoring of the temperature at the centre of the shape allows analysis of heat flow using the appropriate transient-temperature/heat flow charts provided.

DESCRIPTION

Two sets of simple shapes (a solid sphere, a rectangular slab, a long solid cylinder) made of brass and stainless steel are supplied. Each of the shapes has a built-in temperature sensor to measure the temperature at the centre of the shape. Measurements taken on a shape of a particular material can be used to confirm theconductivity of a similar shape of a different material.Transient-temperature/heat flow charts are supplied for each of the shapes.The water bath has a capacity of 30 litres and is heated by a 3.0 kW electric heating element. The temperature of the water bath can be maintained and predeterminedby means of a temperature controller before taking any measurements. It is a super-conducting device and involves the transfer of heat by boiling and condensation of a fluid and hence transfer of heat takes place under nearly isothermal condition. In this apparatus the comparison of heat pipe with the copper pipe as good conductor of heat and with the stainless steel pipe as same material of construction is made. It consists of three identical cylindrical conductors in respect of geometry.One end of these is heated electrically while there are small capacity tanks acting as heat sinks at the other end. Description

The present Set-up is designed to measure the emissivity of test plate.
